Master several songs at once

On a paid plan you can upload a batch of songs, choose one loudness for all of them, and download every master together as one zip file. Each song is mastered on its own, exactly as it would be if you uploaded it alone. Songs are not balanced against each other as an album.

What you need

  • A paid account: Unlimited, or at least one per-track credit. Free accounts master one song at a time; the upload page tells them batches come with a paid plan.

  • Up to 12 finished mixes as WAV, AIFF, FLAC or MP3, each up to 1 GB. The length limits are the same as for one song: 12 minutes (6 minutes above 48 kHz).

1. Open the upload page

Press Master a track in the sidebar. There is one upload box. Choose or drop several files into it and the page changes to Master your songs. Choose just one file and it stays the normal single-song upload.

2. Choose your songs

Choose or drop up to 12 files in the upload box. Once the list is showing, Add more songs adds more, until the list is full. Each file uploads on its own and shows Waiting, Uploading, Uploaded or Upload failed. A file that fails does not stop the others: press Retry where it is offered, or Remove to take it off the list.

If you pick more than 12, the first 12 are listed and the page says so.

3. Choose a loudness

Pick one of the four choices: Dynamic (−14 LUFS), Balanced (−11 LUFS), Full (−9 LUFS), Extra loud (−8 LUFS). The choice applies to every song in the batch. To master a song at a different loudness, upload it on its own.

Not sure which? Loudness targets explains what each streaming service does with a loud master.

4. Start the batch

When every file reads Uploaded, the button at the bottom reads Master 3 songs, with your count in place of the 3. Press it. Nothing is charged at this point.

A free daily limit of 20 masters applies to accounts without Unlimited, and every song in a batch counts toward it. If a batch would pass the limit, the page says how many are left today and the batch is not started.

5. Follow the batch page

The page moves to the batch page, which lists every song with its state: Waiting, Mastering, Ready or Failed. A line above the list counts them, for example “2 mastering, 7 waiting, 3 ready”, with an estimate of the time left. The page updates by itself.

2 songs are mastered at a time and the rest wait their turn, so a long batch takes a while. You can close the page. When the last song finishes you get one email, “Your 12 masters are ready” (with your own count), that names any song that failed and links to the batch page. You do not get an email for each song.

Press a song's name to open its own job page, with its player and numbers. Each song also appears in your library like any other upload.

6. Download all

Once no song is still working, Download all appears on the batch page. Choose a format, 24-bit WAV, 16-bit WAV or MP3, and press Download all. Your browser downloads one zip file with a file for each song that finished, numbered in the order you uploaded them. A song that failed is left out of the zip and stays listed on the page.

On Unlimited, the download starts straight away.

With per-track credits, a song you have not bought yet costs one credit. The page first says “This uses 4 of your 6 credits” (your own numbers), and takes the credits only when you press Confirm. Songs you already bought cost nothing. If you have fewer credits than you need, the page says “You need 4 credits and have 2” and offers See plans; nothing is taken and no partial zip is made.

If a zip download stops partway, press Download all again. Each song's own job page also has its own download buttons, so you can fetch the files one at a time.

Next: Download your master for the single-song buttons and what each format is for. If a song in the batch fails, see Fix a master that failed.
